About United Nations

“We the peoples of the United Nations," begins the United Nations Charter. It goes on to list four principal aims for the global organization.

  • Second, to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights.
  • Third, to uphold respect for international law.
  • And fourth, to promote social progress and better standards of life.

These are not easy tasks, and throughout its history the UN has been a controversial institution.
