UPSC: Union Public Service Commission, which is the government of India agency for recruiting civil servant for its Administration, public sector corporations and its own departments in officer grade rank. Modern Civil Service in India was 1st introduced in 1854, Initially, the examination for Indian civil service was conducted only in London. The maximum age limit was 23 years and the minimum age was 18 years. After Independence, Indian Administrative Service was created in 19 government of India Under Act 1919 and article 378.

UPSC Equally famous for Civil Services Exams commonly addressed as the IAS Exam since IAS(Indian Administrative services) is one of the most inspirational and preferred jobs in the country. Apart from civil services Examinations UPSC Exam List Includes :

Civil Services Examination (CSE)

Civil Services Examination, popularly known as the IAS exam conducted annually.  After clearing UPSC Selected candidates to join the Central and All India services such as the Indian Administrative Service(IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Central Services (Group A) and Group B Services. Educational Qualification :

  • A degree from a Central, State or Deemed University

  • A degree received through correspondence or distance education

  • A degree from an open university

  • A qualification recognized by the Government of India as being

  • equivalent to one of the above

Age Limit :

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on August 1 of the year of examination. For OBC  the upper age limit is 35, and for SC and ST the limit is 37 years.

Number Of Attempts :

  • General Category: 6 attempts to 32 years of age.

  • OBC: 9 attempts to 35 years of age.

  • SC/ST: unlimited attempts to 37 years of age.

Indian Engineering Services (IES)

Indian Engineering Services(IES) Examination commonly known as ESE is conducted annually by UPSC to recruit engineers of four domains i.e. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunications for the Managerial posts in various Ministries and Departments of GOI such as Railways, Telecom, Border Roads, CPWD, CWC, CPES, NHAI, Naval Armaments, IDSE, MES, Ordnance Factories etc.

Eligibility criteria :

  • B.E/B.tech/Diploma (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) from recognizing Central, State or Private University under the UGC Act.

  • A candidate Must Be Citizen Of India.

Age Limit :

  • Minimum Age – 27 years

  • Maximum Age – 32 years

Examination Process :

  • Preliminary Exam (objective type CBT).

  • Mains Exam (Conventional typewritten Exam)

Combined Defence Services (CDS)?

The Combined Defence Services(CDS) Examination is conducted twice in a year by the Union Public Service Commission for Various post: Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy

Eligibility criteria :

Degree from a recognized university or equivalent. B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering. The degree of a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology.

Age Limit :

  • Indian Military Academy: 19-24 Years

  • Air Force Academy: 19-23 Years

  • Naval Academy: 19-22 Years

  • Officers’ Training Academy: 19-25 Year (not before 2 June on the Year of Examination)

No of Attempts :

There is No Limited Number Of attempts, You Can Apply till your last age.

Examination Process :

  • Written Exam

  • Interview: Personality Test(PI)

National Defence Academy(NDA)

The National Defense Academy is the joint service academy of Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force are trained together before they go to final services academies. It is the first tri-service academia of the world which was established on 7th December 1954.

Age Limit :

The age limit for NDA (for all the three wings) is between 16 ½ and 19 ½ years (both inclusive)

Indian Economic/Statistical Services

The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Indian Economic/Statistical Services Exam to recruit Grade IV officers for the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) and Indian Economic Service (IES). Indian Economic/Statistical Services Exam is generally conducted in the month of November. ISS and IES are central government services which are involved in economic planning and analysis through state boards, planning commission and other   bodies in the country.

Educational qualification :

A candidate for Indian Economic Service must have obtained a degree with Economics or Statistics as a subject and a candidate for the Indian Statistical Service must have a degree with Statistics or Mathematics or Economics as a subject from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the Universities Grant Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age Limit :

A candidate should have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 28 years on the 1st January of the year of examination.

Examination Process :

  1. Written Examination

  2. Viva-Voca test of such candidates as may be called by the commission carrying a maximum of 250 marks.

Combined Medical Services :

The Union Public Service Commission conducts the “Combined Medical Services” Examination or the CMS Exam for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organizations such as the Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways, the municipal corporation of new Delhi municipal corporation functioning under the Government of India. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the month of March and examination is conducted in June.

Educational qualification :

For admission to the exam, a candidate should have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination. A candidate who has appeared or has yet to appear at the final MBBS Exam may also apply.

Age Limit :

A candidate for this examination must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 01st August 2018, i.e. the candidate must have been born not earlier than 02nd August 1986.

The Geologists Examinations :

Geology and its allied disciplines are concerned with the structure, dynamics and evolution of the earth and its natural mineral and energy resources. Hydrologists focus on the relation of waters on or below the surface of the earth. The Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) Geologists’ Examination recruits eligible candidates to premier geoscientific organisations like The Geological Survey of India (GSI) or the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB)

Educational qualification :?

(A). For Geologists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Masters Degree in Geological Science or Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource management or Oceanography and  Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geochemistry or Geological Technology

(B) For Geophysicists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics)

(C) For Chemists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry

(D) For Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist-B) Group ‘A’ in Central Ground Water Board: Masters Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology

Age Limit :

Candidate age must be between 21 years and 32 years for Geologist, Geophysicist & Chemist posts, between 21 years and 35 years for Jr Hydro-geologist posts.

  • Candidates who belong to General category are allowed to attempt this exam for four times.

  • Those candidates who belong to SC/ ST category or any other reserved categories they are allowed to make seven attempts for these exams as per the rules of government.

Stenographers Exam

UPSC conducts a Combined Limited Departmental (CLD) Competitive Examination for additions in the Select Lists for the Section Officers’ Grade and Stenographers’ Grade B/Grade ‘1’ of the Services.

Educational Qualifications :

Applicants, who are applying for UPSC SO/STENO Exam 2018 must be working in certain categories of the departmental candidates, working as Grade II or grade C stenographers and assistants or Cypher Assistants can quickly apply.

Selection Process :

  • Candidates must have attained 40% marks in the valuation of record of Service.

  • Will not be counted for Ranking/Merit, in case, the candidate has acquired lesser than 40% Marks in the evaluation of the record of Service.

Age Limit :

The candidates must be 18 – 30 years and 18 – 27 years as on January 01, 2019 for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ respectively

No Of Attempts :

  • Candidates who belong to General category are allowed to attempt this exam for four times.

  • Those candidates who belong to SC/ ST category or any other reserved categories they are allowed to make seven attempts for these exams as per the rules of government.

Central Police Force Examinations

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to the uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India. They are the Assam Rifles (AR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

Educational Qualifications : ?

As part of UPSC CAPF Eligibility Criteria, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a government recognized university. The University should be incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India

Age Limit :

The candidate must have acquired a minimum age of 20 years. The upper age limit of the candidate must be 25 years. However, the upper age limit up to a maximum of five years can be relaxed for candidates belonging to SC/ST category

Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA)

The Special Class Railway Apprentice Exam acronym as SCRA. The exam is taken by UPSC for about ten seats to induct candidates for special Mechanical Engineering degree course for providing Indian Railways with the top-ranking officers. SCRA Exam is taken by as many as 1 to 1.5 lakh candidates every year to join railways as engineers.

Educational Qualifications :

(A) Candidate appearing for Special Class Railway Apprentice Exam must

have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate or an equivalent Examination with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

OR  Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply

(B) Candidate must have passed in the first or second division, the Higher Secondary (12 years) Examination under 10 plus 2 patterns of School Education with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Age Limit :

The candidates aspiring for the SCRA examination must have attained 17 years of age and must not have completed 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination.
