MA (Drawing and Painting): What is it about?

Drawing is the act of manipulating various graphic tools to organize composition, line and value in order to make marks on a surface. Distance learning courses can be taken in whatever place you have Internet access.

This program focuses on the ideas, process and cross-disciplinary communication of ideas to a client, audience or user. The courses may also stimulate connections between divergent practices and subjects through drawing, including cartography, writing, design, architecture, art and performance.

The courses in this program are aimed at students with a desire to explore the practice of drawing and to enhance his or her skills in the craft.

A drawing career allows you to use creativity to deliver messages through images, a service that is required in many different industries. Some possible professional opportunities in this field include working as an illustrator, sketch artist or cartoonist. An illustrator provides images to go along with a prewritten text or piece of media, such as illustrations created for books. Sketch artists create pencil portraits of people or objects, sometimes lending their talents to police services in order to create an image from composite descriptions. Cartoonists create static and moving images to go along with a story, such as animating characters for a children's cartoon. They need to have an excellent grasp of the technologies typically used in their field as well as strong artistic skills.

The program can boast many benefits to graduates, including knowledge in artistic communication, creative problem solving and the ability to actively explore the boundaries of illustrations. Students can also gain the ability to discuss a drawing’s purpose and its currency potential. It is a postgraduate course in drawing and painting.

With courses offered on both a part-time and full-time basis, as well as online classes offered at most institutions, students have plenty of flexibility in earning a higher education.
