Eligibility for M.Tech. in Structural Engineering
Candidates wishing to apply for the course need to meet the following criteria of minimum eligibility:
- B.E. or B.Tech. in Civil Engineering or attained another equivalent degree such as Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy and Environment Engineering from a recognized institute, with a minimum aggregate score of 55%.
- Students having completed M.Sc. in Environmental Science with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) marks in aggregate are also eligible to apply for the course.
- Students in the last semester of graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they fulfill the other minimum eligibility criteria.
M.Tech. in Structural Engineering: Admission Process
Most institutes admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test, followed by a round of Personal Interview. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges. However, GATE/NET scores are accepted at almost all institutes offering the course.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) – GATE is an all-India examination that is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to test the candidate’s comprehensive understanding of various subjects in engineering and science. The entrance exam is primarily held for admission to post graduate courses in the field of engineering, technology, architecture, and science.
GATE score is accepted for admission to various PG programs. The online test is a multiple-choice and numerical-type exam which is divided in three sections, namely General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and the relevant specialization-specific section.
UPES M.Tech. in Engineering Entrance Test (UPES MEET)- University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) conducts UPES MEET every year for admission to the course. The engineering entrance test is conducted in three phases for non-GATE candidates. It is an online test and the UPES MEET scores are accepted for admission to the course offered by the UPES. Candidates with eligible GATE scores are offered direct admission to the course, however, remaining candidates are needed to qualify the UPES MEET.
The test consists of questions from 4 sections, namely General Aptitude, English, Engineering Mathematics, and General Engineering.
