B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering: Eligibility Criteria 

A student should pass 10+2 standard with 60% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics for taking admission in Instrumentation Engineering course. Most of the institutes ask for a rank scored in any relevant entrance exam. Some of the institutes also hold above 70% criteria in class 12.

B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering: Admission Process

Students have to clear any one of the entrance exams for engineering courses like JEE Main and JEE Advanced, COMEDK UGET for taking admission. After getting a rank, students have to go through the counselling process by the respective authorities which may also include an interview. On the basis of rank obtained by the candidates, seats are offered. Also, some universities give direct admissions to the students on merit basis.

Entrance Exams

The exam pattern is similar for most of the entrance exams. There are 3 sections viz., Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Questions are framed on class 11 and 12 syllabuses. Duration of the exam is 3 hours.

Selection Process

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam and 12th board. For e.g. in JEE Main candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their marks in the exam. The top 2 lakh candidates are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Candidates should note that for any academic session, JEE Main score will be accepted for admission in B.E./B.Tech programme throughout the country. However, some states such as COMEDK UGET conduct their own entrance tests.

Direct Admission

On the basis of marks scored in the 10+2 exams and management quota seats, students are given direct admission in the engineering institutes.  Students with 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible for direct admission in B.Tech. Some colleges which offer direct admission in B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering are Greater Kolkata College of Engineering & Management (Kolkata), Pailan College of Management & Technology ( Kolkata), Netaji Subhash Engineering College (Kolkata).

Lateral Entry

Students, after completion of their diploma course, can take admission directly in the 3rd semester of B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering through lateral entry. Some colleges also conduct entrance tests for lateral entry. Students with minimum 60% marks (eligibility criteria can vary institute wise) in the diploma are eligible to take admissions in the B.Tech course.
