M.E. in Electrical Power System is a 2-year postgraduate course in power system engineering. The candidates who are willing to take up this course must have the basic eligibility as that they have to complete their B.E./B.Tech. with a minimum of 55% in the same field.  Admission process of this course is carried out based on the candidate’s performance in their high school exams. Some institutes may include their entrance exam score.

Some of the institutions that provide this M.E. in Electrical Power System course are:

  • Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University, Bhilai
  • Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi
  • Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune
  • Anna University of Technology, Madurai
  • Anna University, Chennai

This course is all about keeping things in balance. Not just the balance between generating and load or between production and consumption of reactive power. Power engineering, also called power systems engineering, is a subfield of electrical engineering that deals with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electric power, and the electrical apparatus connected to such systems.

Applicants who want an in-depth understanding of critical aspects of power systems, their design, and analysis. The course is suitable for those who are interested in purchasing career in power engineering or further study to Ph.D. level. Students will be studying in-depth knowledge in the electric drives and solid – state power converters, as well as their associated control systems, with emphasis on computer control.

The average course fee charged for this course is between INR 1 lac to 3 lac for the span of 2 years. After the completion of this course, the candidates are eligible for working in the environments of the field like colleges and universities, electricity boards, atomic power stations, hydroelectric power plants, biomedical electronics, etc.

M.E. in Electrical Power System: What is it about?

M.E. in Electrical Power System is also the balance between the cost of energy and its environmental impact or the balance between the reliability of the supply and sides of the equations and how to improve this balance through technological advances and the implementation of sophisticated computing techniques.

Although much of the field is concerned with the problems of three-phase – AC power  the standard for large-scale power transmission and distribution across the modern world – a significant fraction of the field is concerned with the conversion between AC and DC power and the development of specialized power systems such as those used in aircraft or for electric railway networks. Power engineering draws the majority of its theoretical base from electrical engineering.

Graduates in power engineering may go on to become power transmission and generating systems engineers, grid maintenance and stability contractors and industrial power supply engineers. The course is beneficial for those who have proven problem-solving skills, extensive utility and industrial experience and comprehensive power system expertise to identify opportunities for improvements to complex energy and power – related issues. Candidates may pursue a career with major corporations and government departments.
