How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Production Engineering)

Admission to B.Tech Production engineering to a majority of colleges in India is Entrance test based. However, a few universities or institutes also offer direct admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exam.

Direct Admission

Colleges which follow merit-based admission process, generally release a cut off percentage for admission to the program. The admission forms are available in the month of May/June after the results for 10+2 are declared. Students who fulfill the cut-off criteria are then granted admission in the respective colleges.

Entrance Examination

The entrance test is of 2-3 hours duration and contains objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Students are assessed on the basis of their performance in the entrance test and marks scored in 10+2 examination.  Some of the entrance examinations are listed below:

  • JEE Main- NITs, IIITs and most of the government funded technical institutes accept JEE Main Score
  • JEE Advanced- IITs accept only JEE advanced score. JEE Advanced can be taken after appearing and passing JEE Main.
  • EAMCET- Conducted for colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

Lateral Entry

Certain universities like Manipal University allow students who have passed 3 years diploma in engineering granted by the board of technical examination od a state government or passed B.Sc degree from a recognized University to get admitted directly to second year of Production Engineering. However, there is a condition applied that students must have scored atleast 45% marks and passes 10+2 with mathematics as a subject.
