M.Tech. in Food Technology is a 2- year full- time postgraduate course divided into 4 semesters. As an academic discipline, Food Science and Technology is an offshoot of the discipline of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, and is essentially concerned with the technical aspects of food.

Food Scientists are responsible for developing new food products, food design processes for producing such foods products, making decisions regarding choice of packaging material, performing sensory evaluation, and conducting self-life studies of the product with trained expert panels or potential consumers, and microbiological and chemical testing.

As an interdisciplinary applied science, food science incorporates concepts from a variety of fields, such as Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Nutrition, Biochemistry, Marketing, among others.  It blends basic sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics, with Microbiology, Mathematics, and Engineering, with the objective of add taste and value to food supplied across the world.

Enrolled students study the physical, biological, and chemical natures of food items, and the curriculum is designed to impart learning in areas such as manufacturing, treatment, processing, preservation, collection, and distribution of food, so that the quality of food that reaches the general public can be improved.
